Reducing bruising
You are better able to prevent bruising than I am.
Please read and follow these suggestions for the best outcome.
- The following medications increase bruising and should be avoided unless you were asked to take them by your doctor.
Do not stop any medication without checking with your doctor.
- Aspirin should be avoided for 3 weeks before treatment.
-
NSAIDS (Motrin, Advil, ibuprofen, Aleve, naproxen and others) should be avoided within 24 hours before treatment.
Tylenol does not thin the blood and will not cause bruising.
- Multivitamins which contain vitamin E and vitamin E itself should be avoided in the week before injection.
- Other things to avoid in the week before your treatment are: alcohol, fish oil, flax seed, ginkgo biloba, ginger, garlic, St. John’s wort and turmeric.
- Dr. Overman has noted reduced bruising with the following products, which should be used in combination:
- Vitamin K cream applied twice-a-day on the two days preceeding treatment and on the morning of treatment.
Vitamin K cream is difficult to find locally, but can be purchased on Amazon well ahead of your appointment.
- Arnica Montana tablets on the two days preceeding treatment and on the day of treatment.
Arnica Montana tablets can be purchased on Amazon as well as locally.
Follow the directions on the bottle you purchase as there are different doses.
- Arnica Montana gel twice-a-day starting after treatment.
Arnica Montana gel can be purchased on Amazon as well as locally.
- For the most rapid resolution of bruises, OcuMend Healing Gel pads can be started immediately after bruising and applied every 6 hours for 3 days. I carry these, the cost is $20 for a pack of two and $250 for a box of 13 packs of two. OcuMend contains Arnica Montana in addition to other ingredients and seems more effective than Arnica alone.
Special event timing
Wedding, reunion or other special event in your future?
Keep in mind that it takes about two weeks after treatment to enjoy the full effect of Dysport or Botox.
The effect of fillers is immediate, although you may want to allow some lead-time in case of minor side effects.
